B-BBEE Affidavits
Obtaining a B-BBEE certificate is hard work, a lot of planning and sometimes expensive.
That is not the case if you are an Exempt Micro Enterprise (EME). An EME can, irrespective of the composition of its shareholding, qualify as a level 4 B-BBEE contributor. To be recognised as en EME, the company’s turnover must be less then R10 million per year.
If the EME (thus still below R10m revenue) is 51 or more percent black owned, it will automatically qualify to be a level 2 contributor.
A Qualifying Small Enterprise (QSE) is a company with a turnover of between R10 million and R50 million per year. Companies with 51 or more percent black ownership will automatically qualify to be a level 2 contributor. The difference comes for companies that are “white owned”. These companies are not allowed to sign the affidavit anymore and must apply the B-BBEE codes for certification.
