B-BBEE Management Control

The B-BBEE element of Management control

Management control refers to the people in the business, the people who run the business. It differs from ownership in that you can be a shareholder while not being a director or even on the payroll. Think about how shares work on the JSE for example.

People who work within the business and get measured for BEE purposes are categorised as follows:

  • Board Participation
  • Other Executive Management
  • Senior Management
  • Middle Management
  • Junior Management
  • Employees with disabilities

For you to get maximum points under each of these categories, there are further levels specific to female participation. BBBEE points are also allocated based on the “Economically active population”, which refers to the race and gender of the working individuals in South Africa.

Your claim for management control points need to balance back to the EEA2 and EEA4 of the employment equity act submission for that year, as well as your organogram.

The verification agency is also allowed to interview any staff member to confirm your declaration versus the reality of the business.

Not the trickiest portion on the scorecard, but unfortunately also not the one that can be adjusted easily as well due to labour laws in the country.
