Skills Development

Getting the best out of your B-BBEE skills development

Skills development for B-BBEE purposes refers to the training of black people. Points are earned through the payment for and employment of staff and learners, with a view of upskilling not only the next generation of staff, but leaders in your business.

The skills portion of the B-BBEE generic scorecard looks like this:

Skills Development Scorecard

Skills development sped is the rand value that you pay for in terms of training.

Bursaries are with accredited higher education institutions ONLY, not with TVET etc. the providers accreditation number must start with HE.

Disabled spend is the rand value incurred on training disabled people.

The last component, learnership headcount, represents the number of staff that you formally train on a learnership, internship or apprenticeship.

The salaries paid to staff while on a learnership will also count towards your BEE spend for skills (line 1), making the cost a little bit more affordable.

Lastly, always ensure that you make use of a credible training provider, as the cost of training for no points is just not worth it!
